Jaffa
2011 - 2014
Nuzhaa Gallery for Young Artists in Jaffa was founded in 2011 by Tel Aviv-Jaffa municipality and Hadas Kedar who is the main curator of the gallery. The gallery is located in the center for leadership in the heart of Jaffa and is intended for youngsters of both Arab and Jewish communities of Jaffa. Nuzhaa, named after the neighborhood in which it is located, is a platform for both creation and exhibition of art created by youngsters and by professional artists that deal with issues relevant for the young generation of Jaffa.
Nuzhaa is the only gallery in Israel intended for a young audience. By reaching out to the young generation of Jaffa, the creative activities of the gallery create a platform for Arab-Jewish dialogue based on creative issues. The meaning of the name of the gallery – wandering – is the basis of its rationale. A space to let the mind drift towards ideas and concepts that are not necessarily efficient or even feasible.
The gallery creates the physical and mental infrastructure and the creative atmosphere to allow the young generation of Jaffa to explore artistic means as a means of communication that is not necessarily language based.
The exhibitions at Nuzhaa gallery are many times based on collaborations between professional and young artists. In this capacity Hanoch Piven collaborated with the Gimgom brothers; Itamar Shimshoni with Ophir Tannenbaum, Eyal Shani with Kiyat Hasnin, Rafat Hatab with George Nasser.
